Four Movie Purchases and a Recommendation

They got me. I hummed and hawed and eventually folded, succumbing to the recent Criterion Collection flash sale. Four Blu-rays have now been added to my collection (interestingly they are mostly romance-dramas–perhaps an indication of the mindset I am in currently): Marriage Story, The Hit, Broadcast News, and The Worst Person in the World.

I’ve been sleeping on Criterions for too long! Yes they’re expensive–even on sale–compared to regular dvd’s, but man the quality and bonus features you get with them makes it all worth it. They’re the really high quality physical media that is so often missing today. Plus, where else are you going to find a physical copy of the Netflix released Marriage Story?

The only criterion that I had owned prior to this was The Grand Beauty by Sorrentino which though I need to rewatch it, is from memory a really great film about aging and legacy. So let the collection expand! Now all I need to do is actually acquire a blu-ray player… whoops.

A recommendation

Enough about the purchases though! Time for the recommendation I promised which is the wonderful 1984 Stephen Frears film The Hit. It’s a great film about life and death and how different people face the end of their life. Quite Sartre-esque. I highly recommend it and it looks like it’s available on Prime for the time being in the US. Check it out.

That’s all for now! A small update but more to come! Perhaps a post-AWP recap from my time tabling with Silly Goose Press–we’ll see. Until then!
